THE TESTIMONY

Why I Mixed Fashion Consulting with Photography

It all started during my first year of Fashion Design.

A very complicated year for me, both mentally and physically. I struggled with health problems, gained a lot of weight, lost it, and gained it back again. It was a difficult period, but despite all these unfavourable experiences, I enjoyed that first year.

First of all, because I met wonderful, creative students and teachers. Some of them actually contributed to my understanding of what I wanted professionally. Looking back, I think they saved me in some ways. That is something I could never fully describe with words.

After finishing my first year, I understood that fashion design itself was not for me. The work of making clothes is something I would rather observe, analyze, and describe than do with my own hands every day. Spending four years of my life behind sewing machines was not for me.

As much as I love sewing, I need it to remain something that brings me comfort and peace rather than constant pressure and rushing.

This is probably why they call the first year the discovery year. At the end of it, you know what you want, but more importantly, you know what you DON'T want for your future.

To end that first year, I completed a two month internship at an online fashion magazine as a stylist assistant. Strangely enough, but quite fun, I also did a little bit of editorial writing, some PR management, and social media work. It was a pretty vast sphere of talents and responsibilities.

After that, I continued building my experience in fashion. A little bit of styling here, a little bit of photography there, a little bit of art direction somewhere else. I also gained experience in retail: women's fashion, men's fashion, shoes, children's wear, accessories, vintage stores... I kind of did it all in a very short period of time, even though one year can somehow feel like an eternity.

Through all of these experiences, I came to one conclusion: I love helping people.

Even if my face sometimes says otherwise. Society has somehow agreed that a woman with a calm face or without exaggerated visible emotions automatically has a resting bitch face. But let's get back to the testimony for a moment.

I came to a beautiful realization: I love helping people create their universes and bring their visions to life. I love being part of those moments of passion and magic.

And maybe you haven't noticed yet, but I love fashion. Fashion history, fashion culture, costume, clothing, everything that surrounds it.

But another thing I love is sociology.

I've come to notice that when I look through a camera, I don't only capture clothes. I don't only capture people. I also capture their stories, their passions, their love, their ambitions, and sometimes even their insecurities.

So maybe we could call it fashion sociological documentary photography?

I don't know.

What I do know is that this is one of the reasons why I chose to pursue another education as an Image and Style Consultant.

That was also an interesting year. Let's say it gave me all the essential information I needed to truly understand the depth and power of what I wanted to do. It showed me that I could work with so many different people, structures, brands, and magazines.

My love for analyzing everything around me, capturing things with my eyes, and now with a camera and my words, only became stronger.

I have witnessed so many scenes, so many pleats of clothing, so many social cues, so many souls.

And I think that's what fascinates me the most.

Fashion consulting allows me to help people understand themselves and communicate who they are. Photography allows me to document those moments, those identities, and those stories.

For me, they are not separate disciplines. They are simply two different ways of observing and understanding people.

I am interested in clothes, yes. But I am even more interested in the people wearing them.

Their stories.

Their passions.

Their lives.

And I think I am ready to share the testimonies of everything I have witnessed and everything I will continue to witness.

I will be a witness to many stories, many lives and emotions.
